If you are a gun aficionado, you probably want the best gun safe you can buy. And if you are lucky enough to not have to worry about money, you truly can get the best gun safe money can buy. Of course if you look around online or at a few stores, you will quickly learn that there is no easy answer to the question “what is the best gun safe you can buy?”. You’ll get as many answers as people you ask, and it can get overwhelming. Here, I will tell you about some features that the best gun safe should have to help you find the best one.
Any decent gun safe will have reinforced steel. It gives it added security and makes it virtually impossible to compromise. Usually, at the very least, the door will be reinforced, but the more that is reinforced, such as the hinges, the better.
Plenty of Space
If you are willing to make the investment, bigger really is better. You will probably continue to add to your collection over the years, so why not buy a gun safe that can hold your growing collection for years to come. I always hear about how people underestimated the size they’d need and ended up buying several in the matter of just a couple of years.
On top of keeping your guns away from small children, a great gun safe will also be fireproof. You will want a gun safe with at least 1 hour fire protection. Anything less and you are running the risk of your guns not being totally protected. Fireproof safes also come in handy if you are storing other valuables in the safe along with your guns. It gives your safe and added level of security and makes it so you have one less thing to worry about.
When it comes to locks, a lot of it is going to just come down to personal preference. But, in my opinion, redundant locks are the best way to go. Redundant locks have a mechanical lock and an electronic lock. I like this because if one of the locks fails or malfunctions, you can still gain access to the safe with the other lock.
These are just a few things to keep an eye out for while you are shopping for the best gun safe under 1000. While opting for the cheapest safe you can find may be the easiest option right now, the quality of the safe will probably not be anywhere near as good as one of the higher end brands. Some brands that I recommend include GunVault, Winchester, Cabela’s, and Browning. These are all respected brands with good reputations and some great safes.
